Claude gift subscriptions explained
A Claude gift subscription is a prepaid entitlement for a specific individual plan and duration, delivered as a redemption link. It is not a plastic gift card, cash balance, account transfer, shared login, or API package.

What Anthropic's gift flow offers
Anthropic's published gift flow currently offers Pro, Max 5×, and Max 20× for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. The purchaser can arrange email delivery or create a shareable link. The recipient signs in and redeems on the web.
Who can purchase directly
Anthropic says most Pro and Max users can purchase gifts. Free users and members of Team and Enterprise organizations cannot currently buy gifts through the provider's flow. An independent service acts as the purchaser and delivers the link to the customer.
What the recipient needs
The recipient needs an eligible Claude account in a supported location and must redeem on the web. Anthropic says no recipient credit card is required. An active iOS or Android subscription must end before redemption.
Expiry and no-stacking rules
The general expiry is 365 days after purchase, and multiple gifts cannot be redeemed or stacked at the same time. Anthropic separately states that a gift will not expire while the recipient waits for an active mobile subscription to end.
Subscription benefits do not include API balance
The gift applies to Claude's individual subscription product. API Console usage is billed separately. If the intended use is programmatic access, a gift subscription is not the correct funding mechanism.
