Claude gift eligibility: account-by-account guide

Eligibility depends on the recipient account, not on the crypto used to pay. This guide separates purchase eligibility, recipient redemption, location availability, mobile billing, and the rules for existing Pro or Max plans.

Purchaser and recipient are different roles

Anthropic says most Pro and Max users can purchase gifts directly, while Free users and members of Team or Enterprise organizations currently cannot purchase them. That is a rule about who can buy through Anthropic's gift checkout.

The recipient follows the separate redemption rules. An independent purchase service buys the gift and sends the link, but it cannot make an otherwise ineligible recipient account eligible.

Recipient account matrix

Use the current subscription channel and tier—not only the email address—to predict the result.

New or Free: normally upgrades immediately after web redemption.
Web Pro receiving Pro: extends the Pro subscription.
Web Pro receiving Max: upgrades to Max for the gift term; Pro resumes afterward under Anthropic's billing rules.
Web Max receiving a lower tier: gift value is converted to account credit under the provider's current rules.
Web Max receiving the same or higher Max tier: extends or upgrades the plan.
Active App Store or Google Play subscription: wait for it to end, then redeem on the web.

Location and age still apply

Anthropic publishes a supported-location list for Claude access and says users must be at least 18. Gift availability described as global does not override those access requirements, sanctions, local law, or account enforcement.

Check the provider's live location page shortly before ordering because the list can change.

Check timing: mobile billing, expiry, and another gift

An active mobile subscription is a wait condition, not a reason to try another account without understanding the consequences. Anthropic says a gift will not expire while the recipient waits for the mobile subscription to end, while its general rule is a 365-day expiry from purchase.

Multiple gifts cannot be redeemed or stacked at one time. If another gift is active or waiting, use the eligibility checker and consult Anthropic's current instructions before buying another term.

A gift plan is not API credit

Claude Pro and Max are individual Claude app subscriptions. Anthropic bills Claude API Console usage separately. A gift may include Claude Code access according to the selected plan's current features, but it does not add Console API balance or create an API key.
