Claude gift expiry, stacking, and existing subscriptions

Three timing rules are often confused: when an unredeemed gift expires, whether two gifts can be active together, and how an existing paid plan changes the redemption result.

General expiry: 365 days from purchase

Anthropic says a Claude gift expires 365 days after the purchase date. The date is tied to purchase, not to when the email is opened. Store the link securely and redeem promptly when the account is eligible.

The published mobile wait is a specific exception

A recipient with an active iOS or Android Claude subscription must wait until that subscription ends before redeeming on the web. Anthropic's redemption guide says the gift will not expire while the recipient waits. Re-check that official guide if the wait could be long.

Multiple gifts cannot be stacked

Anthropic says recipients cannot redeem multiple gifts at one time or stack redemptions. Do not treat several unredeemed links as a guaranteed combined balance. Plan each purchase around the recipient's current account state and the remaining expiry window.

An existing web plan can extend, upgrade, or create credit

A Pro gift can extend a web Pro plan. A Max gift can upgrade a web Pro account for the gift duration. For a web Max subscriber, a lower-tier gift may become account credit, while the same or a higher Max gift may extend or upgrade the plan. These outcomes are controlled by Anthropic and can change.
